Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen have introduced their first collection of purses for their fashion line called The Row, which is being sold at Barney’s New York and from September all over The United States, London, Tokyo and Paris. Among nine models – that they qualify as “anti it bag” – there is a rucksack of crocodile skin that costs 27,500 Euros.
It all began in 2007 with a small collection of vests and some jackets and minimalist skirts, received keenly by the most influential voices of the fashion world in America. Then others good comments followed , always provoking identical admiration: “Sophisticated”, “elegant”, “versatile” these are some of the epithets that were pronounced on every new presentation. In short period of time, The Row installed itself comfortably in the fashion world, not as another ‘celebrity line’ that grow as mushrooms on the market (the Olsens always refused to exploit their image for their promotion), but close to brands as Marc Jacobs, Proenza Schouler, Jill Sander or Celine.
It was a question of time that these two incurable fashionists were designing accessories and particularly a line of purses that their fans already were claiming with insistence. The result is a discreet collection of purses and elegant rucksacks, which prices begin at 2,800 Euros and that follow, according to Ashley, the same principles that characterize their clothes: ” Luxurious materials, impeccable cut and the highest level of quality “.
The twins confess themselves to be “purses fans”. As a matter of fact, they have -involuntarily- kicked up many designers just by being photographed with their models (as was the case of an Alexander Wang’s black canvas with tacks).
