Everybody remembers Sara Jessica Parker’s character in Sex and the City as a furious fan of Manolo Blahnik‘s shoes. Well, in real life, several actresses and models are fan of said shoes, too. Manuel “Manolo” Blahnik Rodríguez, was born in the Canary Islands, from Czec father and Spanish mother, studied in Geneva and Paris and moved to London to start working and have stayed there since. In 1972 opened his first boutique (he now owns stores in some 12 cities worldwide).
In those years he started designing shoes with a stiletto heel, which has remained the brand’s mainstay to this day. Manolo Blahnik shoes have rapidly become a symbol of pure classical style for the 21st century. The designer was awarded title of Commander of the British Empire some 4 years ago for his service to the British fashion industry.
These days Manolo Blahnik immerses us in the world of the leather and the metal in his new collection designed for Louise Goldin. The new line of the footwear designer for the season autumn / winter is inspired by some elements of the tribal aesthetics of the Ndebele women of the south of Africa. Blahnik takes the characteristic African necklaces as an inspiration to re-dress in metal his new pieces.
These elements join the leather, the straps and the metallic toes, combining the punk aesthetics with the almost architectural style of the designer. The series ‘Straps’ appeals clearly to the most fierce and seducer temper of any women. At the moment, we only have been shown the model in the picture, named Tzila.
