Las Arenas, the new shopping mall in Barcelona

centro comercial arenas
Last Friday, March 25th, a new shopping mall was opened in Barcelona. Located at Plaza España, one of the most touristic places of the city, the Centro Comercial Arenas was built on what it was originally the Bullring of Las Arenas, whose neomudejar facadeshave been kept in their original form, whereas its interior has been built with futuristic and totally modern structures.
The mall’s managers predict more than 10 million visitors during its first year of operation after its opening -which has been expected from the very beginning of its construction works, back in 2003. The whole project had a cost of 200 million euros.
Although it has some 40,000 square meters of shopping, entertainment and office space available, most of them have been already occupied.
Among business already opened, we could mention big supermarket chain Mercadona (with a 1,500 square meter premises), Veritas, Nespresso, Fnac, Balaña’s 12 room cinema complex, a luxury gym run by Metropolitan and even a Rock Museum.
Fashion will be a key element within this complex. Notwithstanding the fact that giant Inditex (Zara) will not be present (due to space limitations), the mall will host firms like Mango, Blanco, Punt Romá, Miss Sixty, Calzedonia, Desigual, Casas, Calvin Klein, Tous, Trucco, +D Conti, Swarovski and Base, to name some of them.
A new metro station within the mall premises is certainly a pro, since it will make going there easier.
The Arenas Shopping Mall is a six-story building, with 3 of them used for shops and restaurants, and the other 3 for entertainment, sports and cultural events. On top of them there is the spectacular 27 meter high dome, one of Europe’s biggest.
