Cibeles 2011: The Show goes on

Agatha Ruiz de la Prada

Agatha Ruiz de la Prada

The Madrid Fashion Week 2011 (Fall-Winter Collection), better known as Cibeles, continued last Saturday with Agatha Ruiz de la Prada as the main designer on parade. She delighted the general public again with her color´s exuberance and flowery patterns, adding this year some square shaped dresses. Today´s exhibition continues with Maria Lafuentes´ “Apoda” Collection. The Leon born designer will show us her dresses made out of ecological materials,  as a way of opening paths to creativity yet responsibly using natural resources. Her dresses are also a step ahead in her search for a volumetric complexity shown in he past designs.
As incredible as it may sound, Lafuente´s use of ecological materials include recycled plastic bottles and disposed fishing webs. This is supposed to be an “off” exhibition, that is, one closed to general public and opened only to those directly invited by the designer.
On the other hand, “open” exhibitions for today include those of designers  David Delfin, Ana Locking and Javier Larrainzar at the Lancia Room and Ailanto, Kina Fernandez and Juanjo Oliva at the Cibeles Room. The show will continue officially until Tuesday the 22th, yet the Ego (the alternative fashion show for new and young designers) will present on Wednesday the 23rd, several parades (like those of Belen Vidal and Moisés Nieto). As special events we may mention the presentation of the Larios Calendar on Monday the 21st and the Loreal´ Award (also at the Ego) scheduled for today. For tomorrow, probably the Alfonso Dominguez´ exhibition is the most expected, together with Andrés Sardá, Miguel Palacio, Sita Murt and Alma Aguilar.
